‘Full of quirky characters, friendship and humour, you will devour this engaging and heartwarming novel in one sitting’ – Sunday Express’ S Magazine
The brand new book from bestselling author Debbie Johnson will make you laugh, make you cry, and make you raid the pantry in the middle of the night…
The Comfort Food Cafe is perched on a windswept clifftop at what feels like the edge of the world, serving up the most delicious cream teas; beautifully baked breads, and carefully crafted cupcakes. For tourists and locals alike, the ramshackle cafe overlooking the beach is a beacon of laughter, companionship, and security – a place like no other; a place that offers friendship as a daily special, and where a hearty welcome is always on the menu.
For widowed mum-of-two Laura Walker, the decision to uproot her teenaged children and make the trek from Manchester to Dorset for the summer isn’t one she takes lightly, and it’s certainly not winning her any awards from her kids, Nate and Lizzie. Even her own parents think she’s gone mad.
Her new job at the cafe, and the hilarious people she meets there, give Laura the chance she needs to make new friends; to learn to be herself again, and – just possibly – to learn to love again as well.
For her, the Comfort Food Cafe doesn’t just serve food – it serves a second chance to live her life to the full…

About the Author
Debbie Johnson is a best-selling author who lives and works in Liverpool, where she divides her time between writing, caring for a small tribe of children and animals, and not doing the housework.
She worked as a journalist for many years, until she decided it would be more fun to make up her own stories than to tell other people’s. After trying her hand at pretty much every genre of writing other than Westerns and spy dramas, she has settled on women’s fiction that seems to make people laugh and make people cry, often at the same time.
Her books include The Birthday That Changed Everything, Pippa’s Cornish Dream, and Summer at the Comfort Food Cafe, all published by HarperCollins. She also ghost-wrote model and presenter Abbey Clancy’s debut novel, Remember My Name.

A Romance To Lose Hours In
By J & L Rigod
I was looking for a novel to enjoy as an 'in-between' from my usual genre...Cozy Murder Mysteries.
This novel caught my attention from it's cover to it's title. I didn't really pay attention to the small blurb with it and figured out that it would be a nice book to enjoy.
I went from laugh aloud moments, to weeping gently, to anger at a teenager's attitude, to outright sobbing (Pets to lost chances,) and left feeling hopeful and delighted with the tale.
A Widow takes her two children and their dog on an summer adventure. Life has been on hold for the past two plus years and the widow fondly remembers family summer vacations. Trying to move on with their lives, the widow applies for a job at this unique café. The requirements? Writing a heart felt resume. I got this far and was completely sold on this book.
The characters are persons that you wish you could meet. The scenery (set in England on the Jurassic Coast) was compelling. British or American or any country can relate to the emotions this widow experiences.
I highly recommend this gentle life romance and cheered at the ending! Enjoy!

I was unexpectedly impressed!
By Poppy Hacker
The story would have been a delightful, fun read but for one thing. It was uncanny how much I related to the main character. I also lost my husband when we were young (his name was also David). We had two small children, my daughter Lizzie (yes, same name again) and my son Daniel. But it was the way the protagonist described the "breakdown" she had when she stayed in bed for a week, how she missed her husband, compared their lives before and after, compensated by sleeping with his robe, talking to his picture, and how she had been isolating herself that really struck a familiar chord with me. I assumed the author had really lost her husband for her to be that knowledgeable about the the grief a young woman experiences. I actually cried several times reading some of the passages. She did a very good job. It was all quite believable and I enjoyed all of her characters. I'm looking forward to the next Comfort Food Cafe book.

New Found Treasure
By Kindle Customer
I was looking for a summer read. I'd finished my Mary K Andrew's book and needed something new. Summer of the Comfort Food Cafe by Debbie Johnson caught my eye so I gave it a try and I was not disappointed. It's just enough of everything in the book, lost love, teenage daughters attitudes, New relationships, old relationships etc. It's a quick read and the characters are well developed. They came to life for me and I didn't want to tell them goodbye. I've always wanted to live in a village by the sea and I had the opportunity to live it through Laura and her children. The comfort food cafe had treats I loved to eat and actually had a special menu for special people. Great read you won't be disappointed.
